K850i as modem for EEE PC in Xandros using wvdial

Bagai nak rak! Itu yang aku rasa bila stranded kat exchange ni dgn EEE PC. Bila network UTP port 80 down dan network wireless hanya clear bila aku keluar bangunan. Satu-satu harapan aku hanyalah K850i. Dia sendiri canggih habis, HSDPA 3.5G punya connection. Tapi OS aku Ubuntu dan original Linux Xandros. Takkan aku nak reinstall dengan XP semata-mata nak surf internet? Kayalah Bill Gates kalau semua orang fikir macam aku. Itu sebab aku cuba juga crack Xandros ni supaya boleh terima K850i ni sebagai modem.

My setup:
Sony Ericsson K850i, Xandros based EEEPC, USB Port/Cable and Celcom Broadband Package (Malaysian Mobile Service Provider)
Bluetooth still doable, but never try
Ubuntu is doable, couple of guys manage to do


Install wvdial

The vdial is quite hard to find, some of the repository is defect. Try add this repository

sudo -s
(Let assume that we stay in root mode)

kwrite /etc/apt/sources.list

add this repository
deb http://download.tuxfamily.org/eeepcrepos/ p701 main

Add key if you want to make sure

wget http://download.tuxfamily.org/eeepcrepos/key.asc -O - | sudo apt-key add -

Mine is 4G EEE PC, so make sure you change p701 to 901 or whatever EEE PC you have

Update: You might want to add few more repos just to make sure

deb http://xnv4.xandros.com/xs2.0/upkg-srv2 etch main contrib non-free
deb http://dccamirror.xandros.com/dccri/ dccri-3.0 main

Update the overall repository
sudo apt-get update


Install the wvdial
sudo apt-get install wvdial


If OK then continue

kwrite /etc/wvdial.conf

Change the configuration file according to your country
[Dialer Defaults]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2
Modem Type = USB Modem
Baud = 115200
New PPPD = yes
Modem = /dev/ttyACM0
ISDN = 0
Phone = *99***1*#
Password = blank
Username = blank
Ask Password = 0
Stupid Mode = 1
Compuserve = 0
Auto DNS = 0

Here I set Auto DNS to zero so that the wvdial will look at the resolv.conf
kwrite /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 10.44.1.33
nameserver 202.188.0.133
nameserver 202.188.1.5

At your K850i, connect to USB, set to Phone mode

At console, simply type sudo wvdial. Try to browse the net now!

If you have more than 1 phone, create a new section similar to '[Dialer Defaults]' let say
[C902 Dialer] and at console, type wvdial C902 Dialer

Extended Monitor For Puppy Linux Using xrandr and xorg.conf

My Specification:
Puppy Linux 4.2.1
Samsung SyncMaster 153v Monitor

1. xrandr

Make sure you have xrandr in your Puppy Distro. Open Console from the desktop
In the terminal type xrandr -q

You should get something like this

LVDS is my Laptop monitor while VGA is my external monitor. Next type

xrandr --output LVDS --auto --left-of VGA

You should get output like this:
xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 1280x1280 (desired size 2304x800)

Secara logiknya, maksimum external monitor boleh pergi ialah 1024 dan laptop 1280.
Maka kelebaran yang diperlukan ialah 2304. Tinggi tak payah campur, ambil yang lebih tinggi iaitu 800 (resolusi laptop).
Nak campur juga? Hodoh outputnya.

2. Use any editor, open /etc/X11/xorg.conf. In Section "Screen", add virtual resolution inside Subsection "Display".

Something like this:

Save the configuration file. Backup if you are not really sure what you are doing. Nanti nyesal.

3. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to restart your X-Server. Your new configuration file is loaded now.

4. Go back to the console and retype

xrandr --output LVDS --auto --left-of VGA

If nothing goes wrong, you don't receive any complaint from xrandr

Type xrandr -q
You should get this

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2304 x 800, maximum 2304 x 800
VGA connected 1024x768+1280+0 (normal left inverted right) 304mm x 228mm
1024x768 60.0*+
800x600 60.3 56.2

Now you have extended display. Horey! Tweak the display if you feel the display is not appropriate.

Sekitar 200 pelajar Malaysia termasuk adik ipar turut terlibat. Mereka akan diterbangkan oleh pesawat TUDM malam ini. Lepak kat Sg. Besi pagi ni?

Beli Durian

Aku? Tak berapa minat bab-bab durian ni. Aku lahir dalam keluarga yang ada dusun durian. Jadi durian ni tak berapa menyambung dengan aku. Kalau ada depan mata aku makan. Kalau ada tapi tak berkopek terbelah lagi aku takkan sibuk nak belah. Nak beli? Jauh sekali. Tapi bila Zaujati teringin nak makan, aku layan. Kalau durian belakang rumah, kita tahu kualiti dia. Buah yang terlonggok tepi jalan?
Ini tips. Sila tambah:

1. Cari durian yang paling kuat bau dia. Ada durian dah berminggu jatuh dari pokok, tapi depa masih nak jual kilo. Hampeh
2. Penjual biasanya akan tebuk sedikit buah untuk tunjuk ini buah durian isi kuning, isi kuning susu, isi kuning gigi tak gosok dan sebagainya. Suruh dia tebuk besar sedikit. Perhatikan permukaan ibi durian. Kalau macam lembab atau berair maknanya dah tak sedap dan tak segar.
3. Perhatikan permukaan kulit. Kalau ada sedikit hitam maknanya buah tu dah sedikit berkulat
4. Picit kulit durian di bahagian pangkal biji. Kalau bonyo maknanya buah di dalamnya sudah kurang elok.
