The Business Insider has reported that, when he was 19 years old, Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg had an instant messenger conversation where he boasted about his access to the personal data of Facebook users and called those users "dumb" for trusting him. Facebook issued a report neither confirming or denying the story. Whether or not the conversation really happened, the report is another in a series of high-profile incidents highlighting Facebook's rapid dismantling of user privacy. The negative media portrayal of Facebook is quickly becoming a trend, bringing the Silicon Valley coverage of the company's troubles into the national mainstream. Aku malas nak tulis tentang Facebook ni. Cuma nak bagitahu aku memang takde account dia. Semua kawan-kawan ada. Hatta sahabat tabligh akupun marah-marah pasal aku takde account. Aku sengih aje.

Aku jumpa Facebook ni masa dulu lagi, masa dia baru nak boom di US. Masa tu Hishamuddin Rais tak pandai main blog lagi. Masa tu Friendster masih dianggap cool. Memang part of research aku tentang Social Networking. Hasil kajian awal, aku jadi takut nak guna kerana masalah privacy. Dia sama dengan Google, cuma lebih merbahaya. Google study interest trend dan behaviour kita di internet. Facebook lebih dari itu kerana maklumat personal ada disimpan bersama. Panjang ceritanya, baik baca sendiri.

Kalau nak terus guna, silakan tetapi pastikan ada sedikit perasaan sceptical. Don't reveal too much. Stay anonymous. Stay low. Kecualilah korang selebriti ke apa. Takde Facebook pun memang dah takde privacy. Privacy untuk orang macam kita sangat penting. Privacy in ease of mind, privacy of life and privacy in personal detail. Peliharalah dia.
